Research Grant

Regulations regarding the award of research grant

• Maximum allocation – Rs. 300,000/- per year
• The principle investigator should be a member of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka
• Innovative prospective research will be given priority when selections are made.
• Research proposals with ethical clearance can be considered for the research grant
• The Research Sub-committee of the COSL will assess the applications and make the recommendations to the college council for approval.
• Approved prospective research proposals will be awarded Rs. 10,000/- to initiate/ continue the
projects.
• The presentation of the research in a scientific congress as a free paper will qualify the research for a further Rs. 20,000/-.
• Poster presentations do not qualify.
• Publication in an indexed journal will qualify the research for a further Rs. 40,000/-
• These cash awards will be considered by the Research Sub-Committee of the COSL and will have to be approved by the council of the COSL.

Travel Grant

Regulations regarding the award of travel grant

• Maximum allocation – Rs. 200,000/- per year
• Maximum allocation per person per year is Rs. 100,000/-
• Maximum lifetime allocation is Rs. 200,000/-
• Applicant should be a member of the College of Ophthalmologists
• Applicant should be undergoing the PGIM training programme at the time of applying. (i.e.- Acting Consultants and Board Certified Consultants do not qualify)
• Trainees can apply if they are presenting a free paper or poster in an overseas conference.
• Priority will be given to juniors with innovative research proposals who are presenting overseas
for the first time.
• The Research sub-committee of the COSL will make the recommendations to the council for approval.
• Grants will be awarded to the selected applicants at the end of the year considering all
applications forwarded throughout the year.
